image 1902: 400th Anniversary of Discovery by Colombus (on St. Lucy's Day), De La Rue Essay for 'Pitons' 2 d. value, with vignette in blue overlaid by frame in pale rose-carmine, Imperforate on white wove paper, close to accepted design but the clouds were redrawn to appear more 'fleecy' and 'The Pitons 3700 feet' was to be palced at top and replaced at base with 'Postage & Revenue'. The card dated 'April 7th 1902' in ink at top and the base of the card showing Border and Landscape colours: replacing the blue & carmine replacing the original green and red. A magnificent Essay, illustrated in 'The De La Rue Collection' edited by Frank Walton RDP, on page 5516. Spectacular and most appealing. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image)
