1901-05 British New Guinea Watermark Horizontal 4d black & sepia with Deformed 'd' at Left SG 5a, excellent centring, bold BNG cancel just intrudes on the variety, Cat £500.
1901-05 British New Guinea Watermark Vertical 2/6d black & brown on Thin Paper SG 16a, exceptional centring, rounded corner at L/L, superb unframed 'PORT MORESBY/10NO06/BRITISH NEW GUINEA' cds, Cat £1400. A very scarce stamp.

OFFICIALS - OVERPRINTED 'OS': 1930 Bicolours 1d intense black & red SG o47 complete sheet of 40 - separated into two blocks of 20 - with Harrison Imprint, a few minor blemishes & a stain affects the imprint, unmounted, Cat £1900++. A very scarce sheet.

1927 cover with 4-line Kwato Extension Association imprint at upper-left, to GB with Bicolours 1½d addressed in the hand of Rev Charles Abel.
Rev Charles William Abel served in Papua 1900-30, establishing a mission on Kwato Island near Samarai. His practical methods were at odds with other local missionaries & in 1917 he persuaded the LMS directors to lease the Kwato Mission to him personally, from where he oversaw as many as 27 outstations.
1938 (July 22) OHMS cover with 'TREASURY/...' h/s at L/L to New York with Pictorials 1d Headdress & 6d Mother & Child strip of 3 tied by Port Moresby cds, the airmail label obliterated at London with jusqu'a bars in red, light vertical fold well clear of the stamps. [The rate was 1/6d per ½oz to GB + 1d for surface to the USA]
1938 KPM Dutch shipping line cover to England with Coronation 5d solo franking (surprisingly scarce on cover) tied by 'PORT MORESBY/30DE38/PAPUA' cds, by airmail to Australia with Townsville '31 DEC' b/s (next day!) to join the Qantas/Imperial Airways trunk route service. [Papua was not directly served by the Australia-England route, but was included in the Empire Air Mail Sceme (EAMS) at the prevailing Australian rate of 5d per ½oz]
1939 commercial airmail cover to Surrey with scarce franking of 1939 Airs 5d green & 1/- violet tied by 'SAMARAI ED/PAPUA' cds, very fine & complete strike of the large boxed 'PASSED BY CENSOR/["initials"] Asst Censor' cachet in violet, Brisbane transit of 20NO39 & Croydon arrival b/s of 4DEC/1939, redirected locally, small piece of the flap missing. [Underpaid 1d but not taxed. The 1/- is scarcer on cover than is the 1/6d]

1940 (Mar 27) commercial KPM airmail cover to Holland with Pictorials 2d Bird, 5d Dancer & 1/- Ceremonial Structure tied by Port Moresby cds, boxed 'PASSED BY CENSOR' h/s largely struck off the cover as usual, large jusqu'a bars in red applied at London. [The rate was 1/6d to GB + an extra 1d for surface to unoccupied Europe]

1941 masonic cover by air to Brisbane with Pictorials 1d & 1939 Airs 2d x2 tied by Port Moresby cds, censored on arrival with red/white label with large numeral '1' tied by violet cachet.

1942 (Jan 22) Australian Forces cover to "AIF/Abroad" with very scarce franking of Pictorials 3d Dandy strip opf 3 tied by untidy strikes of the 'AIF FIELD POST OFFICE/020' cds (ERD in Papua), Army censor h/s unusually in magenta, minor blemishes. Excellent origin/destination cover.
PICTURE POSTCARDS: 1910 (circa) Belgian 'Missiezusters' (= Missionary Sisters) cards inscribed 'Austr N Guinea' comprising Nuns with Young Catechists, Nun with Star Pupils, Oba Oba Mission Station & Church, and Waima Church, minor notations on the address-sides otherwise superb unused. Not previously seen by us.
