1840s (undated) unwatermarked outer with a largely fine strike of the 'GENERAL POST OFFICE/[arms]/ SYDNEY/NEW SOUTH WALES' embossing (worn state), locally addressed to Wooloomooloo but unusually with no postal markings, minor hinge blemishes on the face otherwise remarkably fine for these. [Introduced in 1838 by Postmaster-General James Raymond and valid until 1852, the GPO embossed envelopes & lettersheets are generally acknowledged to be the world's first issue of Postal Stationery. NB: this is not one of the later reprints]
1877 cover to Ireland "via Brisbane" with 16mm 'GNRP/NSW' superb cancel on DLR 6d & very fine double-circle 'GNRP/JY10/1877/NSW' cds alongside, Sydney transit of the next day plus Irish 'LONGFORD' & 'LANESBOROUGH /SE17/77' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. [Colin Tabeart states that the Eastern & Australian 'Brisbane' departed Sydney 10.9.1877 - which must be an error for 11.9.1877 - via Torres Strait, then per 'Pekin' ex Singapore 4.8.1877; arrived Southampton 14.9.1877. The P&O dates simply don't conform to this cover]
1885 World Publishing Co envelope to New York "via Frisco" with DLR 6d pair tied by two fine strikes of Rays '697' (#3R12) and 'WILLIAM STREET/AP24/1885/NSW' unframed b/s, Sydney 'PAID ALL' oval cachet on face to indicate no inwards US steamship fee payable, 'CHICAGO' transit on face & 'PENN YAN,NY/MAY/27/RECD' arrival b/s, couple of minor blemishes.
1891 Orient Line (Sydney) envelope to Melbourne (b/s) with 2d Emu x2 & 10d violet - rarely seen on cover - paying seven-times 2d per 1oz inter-Colonial rate tied by Sydney duplex cancels, shortened at right & at left.
1904 Government Railways, N.S.W. envelope headed 'OHMS' to Singleton Budget newspaper with Centennial 2d 'GR' puncture tied by fine strike of numeral '1479' and 'NEWCASTLE WEST' b/s, minor discolouration on back otherwise fine. The 'GR' punctures were used only by the Railways and are much scarcer than the 'OS' or 'OS/NSW' punctures used by all other departments.
1904 Victorian Letter Card illustated folded lettersheet (printed by Examiner Office, Launceston; photographed by NJ Caire, South Yarra) with postcard-sized view of Bourke Street, Melbourne with trams & buildings including 'Parer Brothers Restaurant Cafe & Hotel' on back and vignette views of Melbourne GPO, Government House, Yarra River & Giant Tree Camp, King Parrot Creek inside, lengthy personal message headed "Yarrawonga" but sent to England from just across the Victorian border with QV 2½d tied 'MULWALA/AP18/04/NSW' cds, minor blemishes.
1907 cover to GB with 1d Arms x5 tied by 'R'-in-oval h/s & light 'REGISTERED/MY28/07/SYDNEY NSW' cds below, on arrival struck with boxed 'POSTED OUT/OF COURSE' h/s & '2D/RLD' h/s applied & 'London FS' R label affixed, redirected several times over 3 days only! Brain-teaser.
1908 German Reply Postal Card Germania 10pf returned to Leipzig with wholly commercial message regarding enquiry about ordering books, ½d & 1d unnecessarily added tied Sydney 'FE 20 - 1908' machine cancel, minor blemishes.
1911 PPC ('Coogee Beach') to Thailand with 1d only tied 'STRATHFIELD' cds but not taxed, 'PENANG/28JU/1911' transit and 'PUKET/30.6.1911' arrival d/s alongside, couple of very minor blemishes. Scarce destination.
1912 Australian Scenic Letterette illustated folded lettersheet with postcard-sized views of Mosman's Bay, Pittwater, Lane Cove River, Clifton Gardens, Long Bay, Gladesville Bridge, National Park & Como Tea Gardens, sent to Summer Hill with lengthy perosnal message inside and Arms 1d tied 'MOSMAN/-4JL12/NSW' cds, minor blemishes.
1912 Arthur H Crook illustrated advertising envelope (horse), to Amaroo with private '50 POSTED' cachet to qualify for circular rate and ½d green solo franking tied by 'MOLONG' cds, minor blemishes & small repaired tear at base.
