image 1842 AN EARLY MISSIONARY LETTER AND 1844 E CARRIED ON A ROYAL NAVY VESSEL: 4 Oct. 1842 part letter (one sheet not present) to the Colonial Missionary Society in London with an unreadable (very lightly struck) example of the scarce "Crowned/KORORARIKA/NEW ZEALAND" oval d.s., h.s. "8" and on reverse "SHIP LETTER" and a "9 MY 9/1843" red c.d.s. 25 Oct 1844 front to Auckland with a fair red oval ship letter d.s., m/s "3" in red and "4" in black. and "P Falcon" at lower left. Note The Falcon was an R.N. ship involved in actions during the Maori wars and used to carry private mails. (Image)

Content by Dr William England to Colonel Wakefield each of whom lost their brothers [Captain Richard England; 1803/43 12th Regt of Foot] in "the unfortunate conflict at Cloudy Bay.....May I be allowed to inquire whether any steps are about to be taken for the erection of a monumental tablet at the joint expenses of the relatives of the deceased....".Important insight into this conflict.
