On 25 March 1927, as a result of a strike at the Chinese post office in Shanghai, the Shanghai Defence Force military post offices were opened to civilians, who paid the foreign 2½d. rate (as opposed to the forces rate of 1½d.). The arrangements ended the following day at noon, as the Chinese post office had reopened. The strike itself witnessed the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist party. Est.
