image 1910/2000 (ca.): A fascinating collection with much based on the correspondence of Sir Ernest Hotson, Governor of Bombay and President of the Philatelic Society of India, with dozens of covers as well as stamps and excellent Cinderella written-up in an album. Highlights include 1911 official franking registered from Viceroy’s Camp to Hotson, much re-directed inc. on Aden dhows FDC, a wonderful section on 1930s experimental rocket mail, 1935 silver jubilee rocketgram, Sikkim Durbar o/ps, later 1935 Sikkim mountain types tied by mountain cachets including the ‘livestock’ overprint with contents list including a live cockerel! Then pigeon post including labels, 1931 first pigeongram, etc. Another fabulous section is on Gandhi and the independence movement with his portrait labels encouraging ‘boycott British goods’ and ‘non-violence’, Morvi State Salt Department cachet on 1882 permit, 1930 cover with Ghandi portrait propaganda handstamp against salt tax, as well as S.C.Bose propaganda, In (Image)

War mail: Five unusual WWII covers, with three P.O.W. covers including mail from an Italian soldier from Indian P.O.W. camp to Italy, cover from a British soldier interned in Italy to India and an airmail cover from Dum-Dum P.O.W. camp to Germany, plus two covers from Great Britain to India, one returned as 'the addressee is reported missing' (special handstamp), and the other could not be delivered and returned, with several 'D.L.O.' datestamps.
