A small group of stampless covers from 1841 'Paid at Edinr' red d.s., m/s '1'; 1843 cover to Kircaldy with 'Glasgow Paid' & Edinburgh ' Paid' h/s in red & 'Too Late' on the reverse; 1843 London to Sardinia with oval P-F in red etc. Rated '10 in manuscript; 1843 Boulogne to Edinburgh 'Paid' d/s in red; 1846 'Ship Letter' on entire from New South Wales to London, with manuscript '1/4' ship letter rate. 1847 cover from Glasgow to Easdale with two Glasgow datestamps, one with 'Glasgow/R.H./N Jan 121 1847' , this receiving house mark only used in Glasgow; 1848 Prepaid cover to Edinburgh from Glasgow, 1850 'Liverpool Paid' d/s in red on cover to Aberystwith (blue arrival cds), handstruck '1' in red. A small group of covers from 1847 1d pink to Kelso from the Duchess Dowager of Cleveland, a 1900 Postcard to London with the addressee's picture affixed in place of his name; 1856 cover with Chobham Camp pmk franked 1d red perf 16, 1899 & 1900 two covers with addresses in sign language; 1900 cover with 1d lilac cancelled 12.05 am on New Years Day. image fascinating Military cover from DAWLISH to Captain Harvest, HM 97th Regiment in Central India, scarce franking of 1862 9d (cut down wing margin at left, nice little circular white flaw in SW corner overwritten 'Stamped 10d' in ink square) and 1864 1d red. The recipient has opened out the envelope flaps and then proceeded to write down salient notes (aides-memoires) for his subsequent reply. Includes ascerbic comments about promotion.
