image The Helen Davis Collection of Penguins: French Colonies: French Southern and Antarctic Territories: French Antarctic Expedition 1948-50, “TERRE ADƒLIE/DUMONT D’URVILLE/1840” overprint on Madagascar Air 100f. tied to envelope to Paris by both Terre Adelie Antarctique “15-2/1949” and “20-1/1950” c.d.s’s with circular Dumont D’Urville and four line expedition cachets alongside. As the “Charcot” was unable to break through the pack ice at the first attempt this cover was carried and cancelled once more during the successful 1949-50 expedition. Photo. (Image1)
