The Helen Davis Collection of Penguins: Australian States: Tasmania: Australasian Expedition 1911-14: Bank of Australasia long envelope addressed to the bank in Hobart bearing 1d. Pictorial tied by cachet “LOOSE SHIP’S LETTER/POSTED AT/MACQUARIE ISLAND/ (penguin)/S.Y. AURORA/A.A.E.” and cancelled on arrival by Hobart Dec. 21 1911 c.d.s. having been carried back by the supply vessel “Toroa” which had accompanied the expedition as far as Macquarie Island, apparently commercial but with receiving endorsement “Posted without contents/(initials)/21.12.11”, creasing at foot and vertical fold at left. Also 1998 “Aurora Australis” envelope with cachet recording early termination of expedition due to engine room fire. (2 items) Photo. (Image1)
