image PLYMOUTH TO FRANCE - MILL PRISON P.O.W. LETTER & CENSORED COVER EX PRISON HULK 'HECTOR'; 17 Feb. 1799 EL (slightly faults) possibly handed to a returning exchanged POW - a ship's rope-maker - to take with him to France, but he posted it on arrival at "28/MORLAIX" so it was charged "11" (sous). Rare thus. Also, June 1810 EL (some wear and a blank side-flap removed inside) from a POW headed from "Plymouth, [Prison Ship] Hector" to his sister in Lyons charged "11" (no other postal marks) along with manuscript censor's "Exd. F.D." on the flap. An early Plymouth POW cover from a Prison Hulk with a rare Censor's marking. (2) Cross Reference: FRANCE, MILITARY - P.O.W. MAIL (Image)

CAMP COVERS TO FRANCE; 1 July 1758 EL (minor faults repaired) sent home via "a group of crippled and old men who are in this prison and being sent back to France", then handed into the P.O. at "L'ORIENT" (fair s/l on the front) and charged "3" (internal French rate); fine 1758 or 1759 ELs sent by the Camp authorities by a special cartel vessel (from Exmouth?) and handed into the P.O. at "S. MALO" (s/l on the fronts) and charged "4" (internal French rate); Very rare 7 Years War covers from a British POW Camp; only a handful of pre-1794 letters from British POW Camps have been recorded.
