1895-96 2a blue overprinted on India (type 8), horizontal pair, the right stamp variety 'h' of British INSERTED BY HAND' (to correct a broken or partially printed impression of which only the feet remain), fresh large part o.g. The inverted letter is diagonal and in a different (greyish) ink. Tiny gum blemishes and some creasing (insignificant on variety) but a unique and previously unrecorded item, comparable in importance to the 'B handstamped' varieties of the 2r, 3r, 5r of the same issue (= SG 61a, 62a, 63b). [The type and setting of the variety stamp share diagnostic flaws with 'State 4' of the 'Br1tish' variety, which may not actually be from R10/12]. Ex Beauchamp Vialou, with his original notation.
