COMPLETE PLATE RECONSTRUCTION
1d red, plate reconstruction, all twelve positions present from 1 to 12 which were all checked and confirm by the late Arnold Rudge, various shades, cancels and papers. This group includes two vertical pairs from positions 1/4 and 3/6 and two horizontal pairs positions 8-9 and 11-12, position 10 is confirmed at intermediate impression by Rudge, mixed to fine, an attractive group and excellent lot for study (SG £13'000+)

UNIQUE FRANKING TO A RARE DESTINATION
1d red, VERTICAL STRIP OF FOUR, positions 2/5/8/11 and VERTICAL STRIP OF THREE positions 4/7/10, just touched to large even margins, all tied or cancelled by clear neat oval bars, on 1859 large part folded letter sheet sent from Port Louis via 'Par Benares' to Melbourne, Australia, cover flaps missing, slight reduced at left, some cover faults, creases, stamps and cover pressed and cleaned, a very important showpiece

B53 "PENOE" COVER
2d blue, position 7 showing the "PENOE" variety, large even margins and tied by 'B53 DUPLEX' cancel dated 'MAURITIUS/B.SP.22.66', on cover front and backflap addressed to Savanne, backflap showing 'GRANDE SAVANNE/B.SP.23.66' cds, some toning, an important rarity as the use of local letters addressed for delivery from one provincial town to another are extremely rare, as well as being an extremely late usage, perhaps the latest for the Post Paid issue
Note: Kanai describes this as "Probably only one known recorded of the "Post Paid" 2d stamps on cover with "B53" cancellation"

2d blue, position 10, good to large margins and neatly tied by circular "1" in concentric circles and boxed 'MAHEBOURG/MR.18.1856' ds alongside, on 1856 small neat folded entire from Mahebourg to Port Louis, with 'MAURITIUS/GPO' crowned circle, cover tear, a very rare usage, apparently one of only six such covers recorded
Rate: 2d inland rate. This rate was for letters from rural post towns or villages to Port Louis, not exceeding 1/2 ounce, this rate remained in use and unchanged from the introduction of the Post Ordinance No. 8 of 1850
