PLATE RECONSTRUCTION
2d blue, complete plate reconstruction of all twelve positions. The original plating is from the Ferrari Collection (13th October 1921, lot 398) and was purchased by Burrus. He changed 5 positions namely 2, 6, 9, 10 and 11, positions 10 and 11 being taken from the Arthur Hind reconstruction. This reconstruction includes the popular "PENOE" for "PENCE" of course in position 7. It shows a mixture of impressions from early to intermediate, mostly all with clear to good margins, some are with large margins, some faults (SG £42'000)

2d blue, position 1, touched to close margins and neatly tied by circular "3" in bars and boxed 'SOUILLAC/JU.16.1854' ds alongside, on 1854 small neat folded entire Souillac to Port Louis, with 'MAURITIUS/GPO' crowned circle and boxed 'INLAND' alongside, very rare, apparently one of six such letters recorded to date
Rate: 2d inland rate. This rate was for letters from rural post towns or villages to Port Louis, not exceeding 1/2 ounce, this rate remaining in use and unchanged from the introduction of the Post Ordinance No. 8 of 1850

2d blue, position 5, just touched bottom left to large uneven margins and tied by circular "1" in concentric circles and boxed 'MAHEBOURG/AP.20.1855' ds alongside, on 1855 folded entire from Mahebourg via steamer "per Annie" and overland to Chelsea, London (England) with red oval 'PACKET LETTER/MAURITIUS' ds, blue boxed 'PAID' and red London arrival alongside cover tear, a very rare usage, apparently one of only six such covers recorded
