image 1860 5c Blue on White Paper An extraordinary mint block of nineteen - THE LARGEST SURVIVING MULTIPLE - in a lovely shade of blue with the paper showing a bluish tint; some perf separation reinforced by hinges, mild stains on three stamps, overall disturbed original gum. Nevertheless the stamps are unusually well centered and this is by far the largest known mint block (the next largest being a plate block of twelve). A very rare and extraordinary franking paying the correct One shilling, three pence British packet rate to the United Kingdom, XF (Unitrade 3, 7) Expertization: 1970 RPS of London certificate Provenance: Dale-Lichtenstein, Sale 7, January 1970; Lot 491 "Halifax" (Max Guggenheim), October 1984; Lot 1116 Frederick Mayer, May 2004; Lot 668 Warren Wilkinson, March 2011; Lot 10273 The 15 pence packet rate to United Kingdom was in effect from July 1851 to the end of July 1854.
