image The John Wilks British East Africa: 1901 Essays: Photographic essay for proposed surface printed issue, denominated 1a., mounted on thick card (90 x 115mm.), endorsed "Dupl." with red and green colour examples annotated "Colour of Border in Design submitted/ " "Head" and dated "JULY 30 1901". Objections to this and another design were received from the Commissioner for Uganda, Sir Harry Johnston, as the Ugandan postal system was to be fused with that of British East Africa.
