United States of America - specialities 1895 "CLIPPERTON ISLAND": COMPLETE set of ten from 1c. to $1 of Clipperton Island stamps (1c. on back) used in combination with US 1894 15c. indigo on illustrated envelope as registered mail to Hannover, Germany via Tacoma, Wash. and New York, all Clipperton Island stamps cancelled by "W. FRESE & Co., Agents for O.P. Co., San Francisco" h/s in violet, the US adhesive tied by "TACOMA" dater, with New York reg. label on face, Tacoma registration datestamp, New York transit dater, Hannover arrival cds and German post notes (various attempt of delivery) on the reverse. A VERY RARE COVER. We recorded only two other covers bearing a complete set of the Clipperton Island stamps which were issued for use on mail to San Francisco by the many (about 200) miners at this important source of guano fertilizer at that time.
