1896 $1 Silver Certificate "Educational" F-224 (Tillman-Morgan) S/N 285533 Fine w/ nice corners and centering. A nice mid-grade Educational. This series of silver certificates enjoyed a rather short run at the end of the 19th Century, and although today we consider them to be artistic and beautiful, the bank tellers of the day complained that they were difficult to sort and count because the denomination of the notes (they were printed as $1, $2, & $5 bills) was not boldly displayed in the reverse corners. This could be true if you look at the backs of this series carefully, but whether it is indeed fact or folklore, we'll never know for sure. (Image)
