WHITING 'ESSAYS': A small group (some taken from publications) inc. a single 1840 embossed oval essay (type E7 in black) concentric machine tooled rings, no wording; 1840 red & black cut-out ex London & Westminster Review article by Henry Cole "POST/V 1D R/PAID/BEUFORT/HOUSE" section from a larger strip; 1848 Art Journal page (foxed with faults) showing 4 machine tooled engraved designs; and a single blue & white cut-out on card "A 3/PRINCIPLE SUGGESTED/BEUFORT HOUSE/C W" similar to that found on the previous item. JAMES BOGARDUS & HENRY COFFIN QUEEN'S SILHOUETTE HEAD DESIGN - 1929 'ROYAL' REPRINT IN RED: 1929 "Royal" reprint in red on white paper (fine - some marks on paper, design unaffected) of this very stamp-like design, produced from the original Bogardus/Coffin brass die found among Rowland Hill's papers in the 1920s; printed in a very small quantity for King George V and a few other notable philatelists.
