image [Great Lakes] Steamer SEA BIRD, Ward's Lake Superior Line, Jun 16, 1860 perfectly struck red c.d.s. with black "STEAMBOAT" straightline handstamp on a cover franked with a 3¢ dull red (26) tied by a light "Detroit, Mich., 3 Paid, Jun 18, 1860" c.d.s., to Putnam, Ill.; reduced somewhat at the right, slightly refreshed, stamp creased; still a Fine looking example of this exceedingly rare Lake Superior Steamer marking.

image Panama, 1850 (Mar. 2), Folded letter sheet from Valparaiso, Chile, to Paris, France, via Panama, an incredibly handsome multi-page cross-written letter (in French), datelined Feb. 28, 1850; sent via British mail, with broken-ring Valparaiso origin dated MR 2 1850 and London MY 3 transit on backflap; front with strong strike of two-line "Panama/Transit" endorsement in red, handstamped "91" rate marking in black plus May 4 "Angl./Calais" receiver; fresh and sound, the paper still opening with ease allowing you to read this letter to Mom, Very Fine. image Panama, 1863 (Mar. 31), Cover from Paris to Santiago de Chile, via Panama, a lovely folded letter sheet, franked 40c and 80c Napoléon Empires (each stamp wrapped around edge as a seal, cut on opening) tied by lozenge cancels; manuscript "Voie de Valparaiso", crossed and corrected to "Voie de Panama" at upper center, with red circled "13" rate marking, red boxed "P.P." handstamp and central Paris origin c.d.s. between red "London/HP/AP 1/63/Paid" and black broken-circle "Panama/AP 21/1863" transits; addressed to the Archbishop of Santiago's secretary, Very Fine, a colorful and enticing early Panama transit.
