Panama, 1863 (Mar. 31), Cover from Paris to Santiago de Chile, via Panama, a lovely folded letter sheet, franked 40c and 80c Napoléon Empires (each stamp wrapped around edge as a seal, cut on opening) tied by lozenge cancels; manuscript "Voie de Valparaiso", crossed and corrected to "Voie de Panama" at upper center, with red circled "13" rate marking, red boxed "P.P." handstamp and central Paris origin c.d.s. between red "London/HP/AP 1/63/Paid" and black broken-circle "Panama/AP 21/1863" transits; addressed to the Archbishop of Santiago's secretary, Very Fine, a colorful and enticing early Panama transit.
