EARLY LETTER EX "EWSTON HALL" + RARE 1842 BECCLES DISTINCTIVE HANDSTRUCK "Pre/paid" MARK; Fine 13 Aug. 1694 EL (from the ex-Agent of the Duke of Grafton, mentioning "Lord Arlington" etc.) from "Ewston [Hall]" [still standing; in the small north Suffolk village of Euston] - the mansion built in 1666 by the Postmaster General (1667-85), the first Earl of Arlington, to "John Jennings at the Rt. Honble. the Countess of Arlington['s home] att Somerset House, London" charged "2" with a very fine "AV/15" arrival Bishop Mark nicely placed on the side-flap. Plus fine 11 June 1842 EL from "Beccles" to Harleston prepaid 1d in cash (red m/s "P 1" at top left unusually also having a very fine rare Handstruck "Pre/paid" at lower left - the distinctive UPP mark of Beccles (matching cds on top flap; this Pre/paid mark is Slemons SFK31, listed with only one date recorded, viz. 24 Aug. 1842).
