CANARY ISLANDS EARLY COVER GROUP: Includes very early wrapper c.1747 Tenerife to Madrid with large ms "3p" (3 reals de plata) alongside s/l "CANARIAS" mark. On the (torn) reverse is a large "M" Madrid receiving mark of 2 Apr. Very scarce so early; also a trio of early Tenerife to Madeira covers c.1809-1820 including Includes 20 May 1809 EL posted at sea on the ship "Mary" out of Tenerife to be posted in Madeira. No payment marks; 31 Dec. 1819 EL carried via ship "Mistico" to Madeira. Writer asks for letter to be forwarded via Lisbon or Gibraltar. It is a copy of an original letter sent on the ship "Helena" with the writer stating "..I have doubts on the delivery because of thieves". A 40 reis charge mark at top right indicates a forwarding charge in Lisbon. Also 19 Mar. 1820 EL carried via ship "Prince of Saxe Coburg" with no charge. All letters to same addressee in Madeira and written in English; also 4 Jun. 1839 EL to Madrid with 15mm tall "3R" mark in red & 9 Oct. 1839 EL to Cadiz with rare, large 26mm tall "3R" mark in red.
