BOER WAR 1899 long bank envelope to Cape Town with a Transvaal 2d cancelled LYDENBURG 12 OCT 99. This was posted the day after War was declared (4p.m. 11 October) The cover has been opened and censored by the Boers with a white Type 2 censor label and then again censored by the British on arrival in the Cape. A vertical crease in the centre of the cover, but a very early use of the Boer Type 2 label, showing the Boers (and the British) were prepared for War! (Image)

BOER WAR 1900 1d letter card, posted locally and cancelled 'MACHADODORP 20 AUG 00. The message on the back is in Afrikaans and translates as 'Congratulations on the birth of your son'. These cards were printed 'in the field' at Machadadorp during the Boers' retreat across the Eastern Transvaal. Uncommon used. (Image)
