SKERRY VORE LIGHTHOUSE 1d RED COVERS (1 EX TYREE), ISLAY H.S. "2" & ORKNEY 1d RED COVER, ETC.; 1796 EL from Simon Fraser (Farraline) with v. fine "INVER/NESS" in circle to "Sconser, Sky", 20 May 1840 EL (ref. wife-beating etc.) from "Bridgend, Islay" to Inverary with fine "BOWMORE" & matching rare black h.s. "2" (previously only recorded 25 Jan. to 20 Apr. 1840), 25 Jan. 1844 + 25 Jan. 1845 pair of 1d Red Es (with MX or "325" Tobermory Numeral) addressed to "Thomas Stevenson" (the famous lighthouse builder) in Edinburgh almost certainly written by the keeper of newly commissioned Skerry Vore lighthouse (with pcopy of matching 1845 cover with lighthouse wax seal) - the 1845 cover with light but rare boxed "TYREE/553--G" - and 1861 env. to Devon with 1d Red tied by "207" (Kirkwall cds on reverse) having note under flap; "If we go to War with those vile Yankees, I trust Mr. G Molesworth [the sender?] will make a fortune by Prize Money & I trust they may get a sound thrashing"!
