EAST (Towle X-45-a, RF II), neat "RMS" duplex, Aug 23, 1940, ties one of two strikes one of two 3¢ Alaska Commemoratives on a cover to Seattle with a large green printed cachet of the Steamer S.S. Cordova; to Seattle; he second stamp apparently paid for a second passage (though uncanceled), this one with a magenta "Seattle & Seward R.P.O./ South S.S. Baranoff/ May 15 1941/ Bruce S. Carrollton & Buttsville was established in 1879, serving briefly as an R.P.O. from Aug. 1, 1882 to Aug. 1, 1883. Carrollton, NY, was a junction on the New York, Lake Erie & Western, where a branch ran south through Bradford (the buttermaker's home) to Buttsville (previously known as Alton).
