image 26/SEP/1807 SANTA FE - Buenos Aires: Entire letter with manuscript "DE OFICIO" inscription and straightline "SANTA FE" in orange, sent by "Teniente Gobernador Subdelegado de Santa Fe" to "Señor Intendente de esta Provincia Don Domingo de Reynoso, Buenos Ayres". The interesting content is addressed to "A los Comisionados de la Capilla de Mercedes", and it is about the replacement of the Mayor of that place, "[translated from Spanish] his odd way to offer resistance and his just imprisonment, having been found English effects at his house, in agreement with a formal complaint..., and although for the reasons that you give it was necessary to send this Martinez with shackles to Colonia del Sacramento...". The long text goes considering this fact of apparent treason during the SECOND BRITISH INVASION to Buenos Aires, the ill procedure to do the inventory of the objects found, and indications on how to procede in that regard in the future. There are also some instructions: "I command you to keep my orders with discretion and those of the Commander of the Colonia...., maintaining the greatest harmony among the peoples, as it is convenient in the service to the King, and a prosperous commission, or otherwise the harm caused will be greater than the remedy to the damages that wanted to be avoided". Excellent letter of very fine quality, and great philatelic and historic value! (Image)
