UNUSUAL 1948 ARMY DEPARTMENT REGISTERED COVER TO GB: Printed manilla env. with logo "ON TO VICTORY - BUY 5/- NATIONAL SAVINGS STAMPS". Addressed to Kent, originating in the Dept. of the Treasury, Port Moresby and cancelled with "RELIEF No 2/ PAPUA N. G." cds dated 2 Mar. 1948. Interesting contents informing the recipient that they have no stock of stamps and that the functioning POs in Papua are Samarai, Kairuku, Daru, Abau, Higaturu & Kerema. (Image)
