image NOVA SCOTIA: 1852 Document stating Queen Victoria appoints Sir John Gaspard Le Marchant as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Eight page document (last three pages are blank) dated 16 June 1852 and SIGNED VICTORIA RI at top, embossed official seal and embossed £200 embossed revenue stamp, with London docketing seal dated 26.6.52. Sir John Gaspard Le Marchant joined the British Army at in 1820 at age 17, eventually reaching the rank of Colonel. He was the Governor of Newfoundland 1847 to 1852, before being appointed Lt. Governor of Nova Scotia. He later became Governor of Malta. (Image)
