image Rabaul 1927 (Apr. 30) despatch of USA internal airmail combination franking (AAMC.P1b) cover to Reading (PA), endorsed "Per/AIR MAIL/via Sydney/& San Francisco" with Huts 1d green (3) tied by Rabaul datestamps paying 3d surface rate to USA, plus USA 16c & 8c Airmails tied by SAN FRANCISCO 'JUN9/1927' paying the USA 24c internal airmail fee, fine and attractive, Cat.$1000+.Prepayment of the US domestic airmail fee with US stamps was authorised in 1924 with the arrangement being terminated in 1937. image 1 Feb.1938 (AAMC.P125) Sydney - Port Moresby - Kerema - Madang cover, flown by Barbara Hitchins; on Ray Kelly Gold Medal exhibit page, with a map of the flown route. Hitchins departed Port Moresby on Feb.1st but encountered engine trouble near Kerema and was forced to land on the beach at Auma resulting in damage to the undercarriage. Her departure was delayed 2 weeks and there was considerable concern about Hitchins' disappearance during that period. Only 2 items of mail were carried, both addressed to Ernie Crome.
