Cat No: 19g

image

1914-15 5mm Spacing '2d.' on 20pf with the 'R.' in 'G.R.I.' Inverted SG 19g, well centred, very lightly mounted, guarantee handstamps, Cat £9000 used; unpriced mint. Virgilio Terrachini Certificate (2008). [Robert Gibbs at page 79 states "Five examples have been recorded, all used, two on piece...One unused copy is recorded, but looks suspect". That may well be this stamp. At page 80, Gibbs illustrates one of the examples on piece: the 'R.' is significantly lower than the 'G.' & 'I.', which is consistent with Tim Rybak's used example. We are estimating the stamp based on our vendor's cost but strongly recommend that bidders request an extension to have it expertised]

Unique & one of the great GRI errors. Ex 'Besancon' (III). BPA Certificate (2017). [Robert Gibbs at page 60 identifies this pair as from Setting HB and the left stamp as from Pos 10. At page 100, he confirms that this is the only known pair]
