1914-15 GERMAN NEW GUINEA ISSUE SURCHARGED - MAJOR VARIETY: Mint example of 4d on 40pf black & carmine with surcharge error "G.R.I. 1d" which appears to show a thick "1" in "1d" superimposed on "4d". This stamp was lot 104 in the Robson Low "Marquess of Bute" sale, and is illustrated in the 29 Apr. 1959 catalogue. Last sold in Apr. 1992 C.P.A. auction as lot 845 where it was stated as being from the Robert M. Gibbs of Saratoga collection and listed as Scott 24f. A very rare stamp. SG 24i £10,000 (Image)
