1856, Governor's Proclamation of Thanksgiving Day, mailed from Concord to Claremont, NH, a remarkable survivor, sent as a folded letter to the Governor, cancelled in blue by "Concord N.H./Paid" postmark; the Proclamation reads, in part, "…for the purpose of all uniting in ascribing in a suitable manner due praise to our CREATOR AND BENEFACTOR…I do hereby appoint THURSDAY, the twenty-seventh day of November next, to be, with humble and grateful hearts, in our places of public worship and by our domestic firesides, sincerely devoted by the people of this State, to PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING TO GOD" and dated the Oct. 31; the image online is of the photocopy of the Proclamation (included in the lot), in order to better preserve the original, which is forming a split along the horizontal fold at "of all uniting", Very Fine, a wonderful piece of Americana.
