Report of the Commission' (1855) 428pp in modern cloth binding with small map of the Gold-Fields, foxing on the title page otherwise remarkably fine, also Government Reports 'Riot at Ballaarat' (1854) and 'Ballaarat Outbreak Petition' (1856). A social document of the highest importance and a fantastic official record of the history of mining in the Colony including legislation, licence fees etc, and chapters headed 'Political Rights', 'The Ballaarat Outbreak', 'Departmental Changes', Financial Changes, 'Social Condition', 'Mining Prospects' etc. The Eureka Uprising on the Ballarat Diggings is often referred to as the Birth of Democracy in Australia. The report resulted in much better conditions for the miners, including greatly reduced licence fees. (Image1)
