Grenada, 1784, folded letter to Scotland, datelined Feb 8, with a fine red wax seal on the reverse along with a fair to fine strike of the first type "Grenada" straightline handstamp partially covered by an Apr 7 Bishopmark; the front with manuscript "pr. the Hope Capt. Richardson" with a mostly complete "DEAL/SHIP LRE" handstamp and three manuscript ratings; bit of light soiling on the front, otherwise Fine. This is the earliest recorded use of this rare Grenada marking, which was used for only about a year after Grenada was ceded back to Britain by France following the American Revolution; the letter makes reference to the British flag flying in Grenada after four and a half years under the French. An important historical cover. Suggested Bid $500-750 (Image)

Grenada, 1853, folded cover to London, with a red Crowned Circle "PAID/AT/GRENADA" and a magenta manuscript "1/-" rate, plus with a Dec 4 London PAID datestamp; the reverse with a Nov 10 "GRENADA/B" double-arc datestamp ("B" inverted - scarce), Fine to Very Fine.
