VERY RARE "P.S. GALATEA" OVAL CACHET & GUARD H.S. ON COMMERCIAL CALEDONIAN RAILWAY PARCEL WAY-BILL; Partly printed "CALEDONIAN RAILWAY/ROTHESAY to [Altrincham]/Via WEMYSS BAY [v. Carlisle]" 16 May 1901 "GENERAL PARCELS WAY-BILL" (small faults) with faint triple-oval-framed purple "CALEDONIAN STEAM PACKET CO./[probably GALATEA]/LIMITED" cachet & fine "JAMES SMITH/C. R. GUARD" purple h.s. adjacent. This Galatea cachet is very seldom seen [we have never seen this, and we have only seen 2 similar way-bills which sold for £1400 & £1800 in 2007], and this commercial usage is particularly important, possibly unique. Exhibition item. Cross Reference: RAILWAY EPHEMERA, MARITIME MAIL (Image)
