Bei der Explosion der 1. Testbombe in 170 m Höhe erlitt das Schiff keine sichtbaren Schäden. Auch die 2. Testbombe, die unter Wasser in 30 m Tiefe gezündet wurde, verursachte ebenfalls keine sichtbaren Schäden, aber sehr starke Verstrahlung. Der Kreuzer wurde nun zum Kwajalein-Atoll geschleppt. Dort drang Wasser in das Schiff, so dass die "Prinz Eugen" am 22.12.1946 kenterte und sank. Eine postalische Beförderung des Briefumschlages ist offensichtlicht nicht erfolgt, leichter Mittelbug, ansonsten gute Erhaltung (Image 1)(Image)
