image Confederate States, 1864 (Sept. 17), adversity cover sent from Calhoun's Mills, SC, to Oconee, GA, a remarkable item, as the cover was created using a slavery log; town postmark dated Sep 17 at left with arced "PAID/10" handstamp at upper right; docketed on backflap "Oct 4.th 1864 answerd/Miss Fannie/Miss Hattie"; reverse also bears penciled note "Calhouns Mills owned by family of John C. Calhoun, & m'f'd textiles for Confed Army thruout War"; fully opened for display, Fine to Very Fine, but more important for the cover's origin. (Image)
