Davis"/East Gulf Squadron/Key West (Fla.)". Cover opened cleanly at left. The U.S. bark "James L. Davis" was a schooner in the blockade around Florida during the Civil War and in early August 1864 had destroyed the Craig Sugar Mill at Ellenton, Fl. (Image)

Pencil notation on left edge of cover "SHERIDANS DEATH." General Sheridan was National Commander of the organization from 1886-1888, dying in office.
