image CURTISS AIRPLANE EXPORT COMPANY EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHTS, PANAGRA FIRST POSTAL FLIGHTS, USA TO ARGENTINA VIA CHILE, 1929 HIGH POSTAGE RATE COVER TO UK ETC.: 22 Mar. 1928 cover from La Paz to Santiago with arrival cds 24 Mar. 1928, franked 15c and 8 May 1928 cover franked 5c, from Santiago to Buenos Aires arriving same day. Each cover bears a shield shaped cachet inscribed "FIRST EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT" for the given route. 26 Nov. 1929 large (and presumably heavy) cover from Iquique via Santiago to London. Bearing stamps to value $59.90. Putney arrival cds 21 Dec. 1929. Env. roughly opened at one end with folds (through just one outlying stamp) and trivial staining. An unusually high postal charge. Also, a group of Panagra First Flight covers inc. 3 Oct. 1929 cover from Miami to Buenos Aires via Cristobal (7 Oct), Lima & Santiago arriving 15 Oct. at Buenos Aires. Produced by stamp dealer Roessler having large cachet in violet and US frankings to 75c; 12 Oct. 1929 cover from Buenos Aires to Miami via Santiago, Guayaquil & Cristobal (18 Oct. arrival) and onward to Miami via PanAm.
