BIRKENHEAD VILLAGES - LISCARD: A 1845-1912 collection of mail inc. an 1880 EL mistakenly addressed to "Liscard, New Brighton" which was initially sent to Birkenhead, then New Brighton, then to Liscard (where it was discovered the recipient had moved to Ormskirk), then it retraced it's steps on to Ormskirk, with a variety of cds's on the back inc. a fine "LISCARD" UDC; an 1849 EL (faults) addressed to Liscard ex-the Postmaster General, Ullick John de Burgh; plus other ELs, envs., and PPCs cancelled with UDC, Squared Circle, Skeleton, and Double Circle cds's. BALANCE OF A WIRRAL COLLECTION: An 1851-1911 collection of postmarks, mainly scarce Birkenhead town sub offices inc an 1855 env. with a fine red s/l "WATSON ST." namestamp on flap (1 year later than previously recorded); an 1853 env. to Dublin franked with a 1d red star tied by a v. fine "BIRKENHEAD/1/JA25/53/74" sideways duplex (latest known use) with a fine "WATSON ST." UDC on flap (previously unrecorded used); plus other envs. & PPCs cancelled with UDC, Squared Circle, Duplex, Thimble, and Double Circle cds's. Mainly in fine condition. (53) (Image)
