4d TRIANGULAR FRANKINGS PLUS SCARCE CROWN & LAUREL LEAVES PAID HANDSTAMP: Pair with 21 July 1855 reduced E to Middelburg franked 4d (just touched at lower left) tied by a triangular bar cancel and with oval "GRAAFF REINETT" d.s. on rear and 19 Aug. 1859 defective env. to Cape Town franked 4d (just cut into at top) and tied by triangular bar cancel with "HOPE-TOWN" double-arc d.s. on rear. Also Scarce oval "POST OFFICE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE/GR" and struck mark on a fragment as used at Cape Town on internal mail in the early 19th century [RL HS1] plus 1900 QV 1d embossed envs. to Cape Town both with indistinct bar cancels and one with a "PIQUETBERG" cds on front. 1853-1858 TRIANGULAR ISSUES: Group inc. 1853 1d pale brick-red with double ring and additional ms. cancel and 4d deep blue margins close to touching with a triangular cancel. 1d brick-red and 4d deep blue used, both on slightly blued paper and both with good to close margins, latter with faint creases only visible from rear.
