image (Law/Politics) Peter Augustus Jay (1776-1843), Lawyer and Diplomat, eldest son of John Jay, 1st Supreme Court Chief Justice. A prominent New York lawyer, he was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson the task of bringing the signed "Louisiana Purchase Treaty" to Washington for ratification. This document dated "NEW YORK 22 DEC 1817" signature on a handwritten letter to the Bleecker and Sedgwick law firm with instructions on collecting and accounting for a payment. Document has (3) folds with some separation and a tear upper right edge. Overall, Fine to Very Fine condition by a notable historical figure. Pencil notes on front (Image)
