Cat No: Lafayette $1
Lafayette Dollar (1900) MS60 or very nearly so. A few marks and an earlier dipping but the coin has regained some attractive peripheral toning. Lafayette Dollars are quite scarce in true mint state. This coin displays fairly strong central details on the rev - an area poorly struck on most specimens. As mentioned in the these pages in the past, all Lafayette Dollars were struck on Dec 14th 1899, the 100th anniversary of George Washington's death. Die varieties are known to exist, and with only 36,026 coins produced, there are likely some rare ones yet to be cherry-picked. (Image)
