image Col. E.H.R. Green's Personal Mailing Labels, die proofs, the labels feature the full-rigged Charles W. Morgan, "the Oldest Whaler in America", which was enshrined on Green's estate, "Round Hill"; the labels also mention Green's radio station, W.M.A.F., "Round Hills Radio, South Dartmouth, Mass."; included are five progressive die proofs and 20 die proofs on wove of the complete design, nearly all in a different color combination., Very Fine.

According to Ernest Kehr, "Although the stamps were proposed for use on mail sent from the Green Mansion, Round Hill, to New Bedford, the nearest town, seven miles distant…none was ever found in used condition.’’ However, it is more likely that the stamp was used as a Radio Reception Verification Stamp and, according to H.M. Southgate, writing in reply to Kehr's article "Whenever a wireless message was confirmed by letter throughout the world the stamp would be attached to the envelope. Perhaps on the flap or used inside on an envelope containing the origination."

image 1942-44, Armed Forces Free Mail, private labels. Interesting collection based mostly on the labels produced by Albuquerque, NM printers, Babcock & Borough; includes mint labels, proofs of same, five covers, several newspaper clipping, and photostats of two Official letters telling the printers that such labels were not legal, one from the 3rd Assistant Postmaster General to Mr. Borough, the other from New Mexico Senator, Carl Hatch to Mr. Babcock; a fascinating group.
