PAID Boston postmark, on cover to West Coast Africa, an eye-catching cover, franked by 3¢ Washington plus 30¢ Franklin (#65, 71), each tied by full strike of the Boston cancel; red "28" and "d1" (?) accountancy marks alongside, with "Boston Br. Pkt./OCT/8/PAID" postmark in red on reverse; addressed to the captain of the Bark Said bin Sultan [based out of Salem, MA] care of Cape Coast Castle, West Coast Africa (now Ghana); the Castle was one of about 40 "slave castles" (also known as "gates of no return") built on the Gold Coast; 30¢ cut-in at right, the cover with light toning, but a spectacular item nonetheless with outstanding eye-appeal, Very Fine.
