1862, U.S.S. Housatonic, Screw Sloop, cover with manuscript endorsement "U. S. S. Housatonic" franked with a 3¢ rose (65) tied by a New York circle-of-wedges duplex, Dec 15, 1862, to Wickford, R.I., Fine to Very Fine,
Housatonic, with a complement of 160, was commissioned in August 1862 and assigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
