Original 1873 Appointment of Postmaster General Document, on vellum paper measuring 66 x 49.5 cm, appointing The Honourable Donald Alexander Macdonald as Postmaster General of Canada. He was our third Postmaster General since Confederation, and held the position from November 7, 1873 to May 17, 1875 under Alexander Mackenzie, our second Prime Minister. The document is embossed with the Great Seal of the Reign of Queen Victoria at upper left, measuring 12 cm in circumference. As far as we know, this is the only known example in private hands of such an appointment document, and is of great National and historical importance. Folded in half, and then into thirds, with many damaged edges, still rare and desirable, and would look great restored and framed. Rsv. $2,500. (Image)
