image [Michigan Territory] "Ann Arbor, May 12", manuscript postmark with a matching "10" rate on a pristine 1834 folded letter to the Governor of Michigan in Detroit; the letter, from "the agent of the Government for the Indian Department", George W. Jewett, requests redress for one John Thurston, who purchased a tract of land from the government for cultivation, only to be prevented from occupying it "by a number of Indians of the Potawatomy tribe who are preparing to plant corn & who with menaces of violence drove him off, and even threatened to shoot him, if he attempted to disturb their possessions.". A fascinating piece of Michigan Territorial history, Very Fine, Ex-Ebach.
