Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions, LLC Sale: 717

Worldwide A-Z
San Marino
Sale No: 717
Lot No: 444
Symbol:
Cat No: 21-22

image San Marino, 1877-99, Arms, 1L carmine & yellow and 1L light blue (Scott 21-22), o.g., Fine, a nice mint pair of these two key high values, both signed A. Diena, first also signed Bolaffi, second En Diena with his 1985 certificate.
Sassone 20, 31; €3,000 ($3,660).
Scott $3,500.
Estimate $750 - 1,000

Note: Sassone prices are for "mediocre"—a quality shared by these two stamps—is really the norm for this issue. Simply "discrete", or reasonable centering adds a 50% premium, while examples with "optimal" centering would be valued at more than four times the prices quoted.

On Scott country pages; regular issues through 1938, Semi-Postals to 1946 and Airs to 1940; remarkably fresh throughout, with most issues looking like they came directly from the Post Office; highly complete, needing just a handful of items; the collection starts with a near-complete mint First Issue set (lacking just the 1L values), and features Semi-Postal Special Deliver, Special Delivery and Parcel Post issues as well; highlights include (mint, unless noted) #13, 15, 17, 24 (used), 28, 40-71 & 73-76 (75 mint and used), a gorgeous set of 115-133, 134-138, 139-142 (142 never hinged), 143-150 (used, less #143 mint), 155-160, B1-B2 (never hinged), phenomenal Airmails #C1-C10 (C10 noted tiny thin), C11-C16, an apparently complete run of Dues from #J1 to J60 (mix of mint and used), plus Q1-Q15, Fine to Very Fine with much better, just downright pretty; inspection invited, #17 with 2017 APEX certificate.
