Jan. 20" (1864) double circle postmark, manuscript "By Flag of Truce" endorsement at top and backstamped "Fall River, Mass Jan 23, 1864" receiver, extremely attractive manuscript endorsement on reverse "Examined & Approved H.A.M. Henderson, Assistant Commissioner of Exchange", light vertical cover fold, Very Fine and attractive, only 11 known, 4 of the five with covers with stamps are with the stamps upside down, possibly meaning distress. May 18th, 1864" (Camp Oglethorpe) from Capt. Henry Hescock, 1st Mo. Light Artillery stating "you can see by the above that I am in Macon, we started from Richmond on the 7th and arrived here yesterday after a very unpleasant trip, our situation here is much more pleasant than at the Libby", edge wrinkling, F.-V.F. and rare. Varnum Hill to his father in Manchester N.H., stating "please see the Hon.
